The paper presents fast self-tuning PI systems of the maximum stability margin with plant's model parameter estimator. PI systems are intended for building high-precision servo control systems whose behavior can be approximated with sufficient accuracy by a model including several sequentially connected inertial links with the time constant T1 and one inertial link with the time constant T2 much larger than T1.

Embedded solutions from Intel for the everyday

The first microprocessor Intel 4004 has celebrated its anniversary in 2011. Ever since, the development of microprocessors increased continuously: the number of transistors increased, their size shrank, manufacturing technology changed, the clock rate grew, and the capacity ratio per 1 V of power consumption improved. Today, Intel CoreTM i7-3960X Extreme Edition and Intel CoreTM i7-3930K hexacore processors from the Intel Core2nd family are announced. To meet the needs of notebook, netbook, and tablet computer users, a new full-scale and better protected Ultrabook universal computing device is presented. The creation of 20 nm NAND memory with 128 G bit multilayered cell structure capacity is reported. The capabilities of Intel AIM Suite Intelligent System are presented, and the pilot projects implemented on the basis of this system for mercantile businesses are listed. The work on the new generation of car information and entertainment systems is announced.

Margaryan S.A.  Kama on-board radio system for mobile mine transport equipment of open-pit mines

The paper briefly outlines Kama mobile on-board radio system, which is a part of Kama hard-/software complex intended for automated control of mine transport equipment, such as locomotives, trains, rock haulers, digging machines, bulldozers and drilling rigs used in open-pit mines. The on-board radio system is a navigation-communicated device with embedded GLONASS/GPS receiver, USW/UHF communication facilities, and information display tools; it is based on a FreeBSD OS programmable controller.

Round Table: the causes of ineffective design and operation of automation systems

The "virtual" Round Table discussion of insufficiently effective design and operation of automation systems at domestic enterprises took place in Automation in Industry, no. 2, 2012. The participants noted that the responsibility for the automation project and the subsequent successful operation of the system is allocated among all project's participants. However, the commitment of customer's top management in project results is paramount. The motivation and training of customer's personnel is the next step to success. The need of project benefits estimation not only at the preliminary phase but after system commissioning as well was mentioned. The customers must not be indifferent to the needs of their enterprise and should inquire about the benefits of each automation project after its completion. This issue of the Journal focuses on the causes of ineffective design and operation of automation systems and discusses the ways to overcome the inefficiency offered by the participants of the Round Table, which took place within the industrial automation workshop at the V.A.Trapeznikov Institute of Control Sciences in April 2011.
