Seven `golden` rules of business processes description are formulated. Information acquisition techniques for business processes description are characterized.

Abnormally long life of VMEbus is already the talk of the town, but the phenomenon`s background is not yet fully revealed. The paper makes an attempt to investigate why the VMEbus would not leave its traditional markets and analyze the prospect of this technology as applied to high-reliability systems with long lifecycle.

Kuznetsov R.G. Cables for modern industrial networks

Basic requirements to cables for industrial control systems with RS-485 are discussed. An empirical relationship between the length of a cable line and data transmission rate and cable parameters is offered. Domestic cable series for RS-485 are presented as well as for Profibus DP, Profibus PA, Foundation Fieldbus, LonWorks, and some others.

Integrated speed controller. Stepper motor connection to bus terminal

New modules for electric drive machinery enable space-saving solutions in position control for stepper motors with the capacity less than 200 W in micromodule embodiment. KL2531 and KL2541 stepper motor terminals offer a cost-effective alternative to expensive drives. The two terminals differ in power ratings.

Industrial Ethernet spreads out its nets

5 years ago, Ethernet share of real-time networks market was as small as 8...20% based on different estimates, while now its used by more than 80% of LAN worldwide. Though the scope of Industrial Ethernet standard application is not so significant, both market forecasts and the growing interest of professionals allow daring guesses about the future. The reason is that the development level of modern production makes increasing requirements to industrial data communication networks. Several priority tasks can be discerned among others, namely: improving the transinformation content, ensuring the compatibility of multivendor units, decreasing equipment response times, cutting development and operation costs and time and applying automation systems, as well as more stringent requirements to hardware reliability connected with harsh operation envirobnments. Therefore, when process technology is directly related with trouble- and error-free operation of PC hardware and LAN, the application of Industrial Ethernet standard looks the optimal solution for an enterprise.

SM SIKON hard-/software system for high reliability process control systems is intended for hazardous, in particular, chemical plants where control system failure entails disastrous effects. To ensure hard-/software system reliability, the decision was made to use standby redundance configurations: ISaGRAF for Tricore TC1775 processor on the bottom level, and Phocus SCADA for QNX real-time operating system on the top.

Avkhadeev V.V. Mathematical modeling of multi-stage synthesis processes with reversible reactions. Dichloropropanol solution synthesis case study

The paper describes a system approach to mathematical modeling of complex, multi-stage chemical processes that allows for both the reactions stoichiometry and their kinetics constants. The system approach to modeling such plants is discussed with the example of dichloropropanol solution synthesis process. The study results and the developed system approach are applicable to a wide range of chemical synthesis and rectification processes of similar chemical plants.
