Present-day approaches to the design of safe and reliable process control systems are outlined, their merits and drawbacks are discussed. A peer-to-peer hierarchical system architecture with intelligent I/O devices is proposed. Based on this architecture, an automated system for a process plant within the experimental facilities cluster of Siberian Chemical Complex JSC was implemented.

The paper discusses the process of combustible powder-gas flow filtering by granular filters with unbound structure. It offers an approach to the automation of aspiration system based on pressure differential measuring across the filter. Based on the experimental analysis of overall pressure differential dynamics, the criteria for estimating explosive filter operation modes in the aspiration system are derived.

The results of SPDM system implementation are discussed. The system provides an effective tool for the consolidation of all specific project justification data and the centralized system of activities management within the respective business process. System implementation resulted in business process time reduction and its improved productivityowing to automation and better controllability. Mechanisms for project design data management are proposed which minimize the risks of information loss and its nonoptimal use.

The proposed aggregated model development methodology for eddy-current flaw detector’s signals addresses the nondestructive inspection of straight seam welded pipes during their production. The paper describes the experiment with an eddy-current flaw detector. Physically realizable identification models of defect transformation into flaw-detector’s output signal are examined as an example. The results were tested at Druza JSC and UfaPromGas (Orenburg, Russia).
