Surnichenko A.A.  Improving the reliability of SMK-350 brick-making complex through process controls modernization

The paper offers an approach to improving the reliability of brick-making process through controls improvement. The proposed system is based on SIMATIC PCS7 platform which automates performance and quality data acquisition and analysis and includes a set of new mathematical models comprising reliability dynamics prediction, optimal service, backup components quantity, and the evaluation of maintenance and revamping cost effectiveness.

A novel method for converting discrete impulse signals into continuous in VisSim environment is offered. A step-by-step description of the method is presented. Operation principle, algorithm, and converter diagram are included. The opportunity of converter application in control systems is shown.

Yachikov I.M., Logunova O.S.  Controlling volumetric electromagnetic forces in the bath of a DC arc furnace

A new control strategy for the currents passing through the 2 bottom electrodes of a DC arc furnace is offered. The new strategy enables better electric vortex flows rejection at the furnace bottom at constant arc power. The paper shows the opportunity of controlling the melt intensity and flow direction in the bath of a DC arc furnace by adjusting phase displacement between the pulsating currents.

The paper discusses total xylenes recovery process and proposes the ways to improve its efficiency. A soft sensor was developed for predicting the product quality and advising on the optimal values of process control variables. The results were tested at an operating plant where the validity of the inferential model developed was proved.

Chistyakova T.B., Polosin A.N.  A simulation system for controlling extruders in flexible fabrication of polymer materials

A problem-oriented simulation system is presented. Its kernel is a library of dynamic models of standard sections of various type extruder screws used in flexible polymer material fabrication. The system allows to synthesize the models emulating hydrodynamic processes in various extruders; these models are intended for calculating residence time and the quality indices of extrudate, investigating extrusion process in various operation modes, and controlling the quality of polymers used in food and pharmaceutical industries.

Piskazhova T.V.  Simulation software for process decision-making support in aluminum production

Nikolaychuk O.A., Pavlov A.I., Yurin A.Yu.  Simulation of complex engineering system dynamics based on agent approach

A simulation system for the dynamics of complex engineering systems comprising unique mechanical components is discussed. Agent model and state classes representing the stages of state change process from original flaw to failure are presented. System dynamics simulation is based on a logic-mathematical model combining expert knowledge and analytical models for implementing the behavior of agents. Simulation results underlie the decision-making support for ensuring the safety at all stages of industrial plant`s lifecycle.

Vialykh I.A., Kondrashov S.N., Shumikhin A.G.  Fuzzy control of catalytic cracker reactor section

Process control strategy at a cat cracker unit of LUKOIL-Perm Refinery is examined. A mathematical model of the reactor section is selected, and its parameters are identified. A method for creating the membership function and the rule base of process operator`s actions in various situations is offered. The results of simulation-based evaluation of the fuzzy control algorithm`s efficiency are presented which prove the expediency of applying this control strategy.

In 2010, INIUS JSC has commissioned an operator training simulator for IF-2-3-4 isobutane dehydration and isobutene/isobutylene recovery unit of Sibur-Uralorgsintez JSC (Chaikovsky, Russia). The paper describes the structure and featured properties of the training system.
