Zilonov M.O., Shevchenko A.D.  Using foreign standards in the context of Russian ones

The challenges faced by domestic manufacturers participating in tenders at Russian sites are discussed. The paper focuses on the importance of establishing a correspondence between domestic and foreign standards. It should be noted that a number of Russian national standards impose more rigid requirements as against foreign ones. Therefore, ignoring Russian standards in favor of foreign may result in inferior equipment quality and reliability.

Keywords: valves, import replacement, standards, reliability, integration.

Electronic archive of technological documents. United Metallurgical Company's experience

United Metallurgical Company (Russia) has implemented an electronic archive of design and engineering documents. The system is based on ELAR Context ECM platform. The paper discusses project features, its implementation phases, and development outlook.

Keywords: electronic archive, technological documents, geographically distributed structure, visualization.

Process liquid and gas analyzers

Grebenyuk E.A., Itskovich E.L.  The features of material flow monitoring at process plants

The paper examines product quality indices at process plants and the ways to control them. It discusses merits and drawbacks of existing control techniques such as discrete lab analyses, stream analyzers, and inferential calculations (soft sensors). The ways to improve control techniques are proposed.

Keywords: product qualities, material flows, process plant, lab analyses, stream analyzers, inferential calculations, soft sensors.

Nekrasov I.V., Lezhnin D.V.  Improvement and interpolation of lab measurements with the help of soft sensor technology

A soft sensor-based technique for estimating a physical quantity measured at low frequency is offered. The technique employs a connectionist process model that implicitly allows for the changes of any process parameters and enables the estimation of the quantity subject to all process conditions. A case of soft sensor technology application in condition monitoring of a submerged oilfield pump is included.

Keywords: soft sensor, a connectionist model, physical quantity estimation, on-line monitoring.

Anosov A.A., Efitov G.L., Shaidullin R.A.  Adaptation of nonlinear laws of petroleum fuel blending delivers incremental refining benefits

The paper discusses the most popular nonlinear petroleum fuel blending models, their application experience, and the customization to specific refinery's requirements. It provides the results of nonlinear octane number blending and the cases of nonlinear blend laws application in off-/on-line blending optimization systems. A general equation for modeling error calculation is offered, the benefits caused by the decreased error of nonlinear octane number modeling are estimated.

Keywords: nonlinear blending, error, customization, off-line and on-line optimization.

Petrov A.M., Nikolaev Yu.E.  Automated stream analyzers for hydrocarbon RVP

The paper outlines state-of-the-art RVP measurement techniques for crude oil, petroleum fuels, and liquefied petroleum gases. It overviews domestic and foreign markets of RVP analyzers, including stream analyzing systems and discusses merits and drawbacks of RVP measuring technology.

Keywords: Reid vapor pressure, oil products, hydrocarbons, stream analysis.

Shakhnovsky G., Kigel A., McMory R.  Application of automatic crude oil analyzers prevents corrosion in oil refining

Crude oil desalting decreases the corrosion of oil refining equipment. In the current economic milieu, the refiners are looking for a trade-off between the maximum allowed salt content and the desalting energy costs. The paper offers stream salt content analyzers as a tool for desalting process automating.

Keywords: on-line analyzers, crude oil, corrosion, desalting.
